Fragrance and the Mind-Body Connection

Fragrance and the Mind-Body Connection

Have you ever wondered why a certain fragrance can trigger a memory from the past? Our bodies have an amazing way of connecting the odors we inhale to our brain. When we inhale a fragrance, the molecules get broken in to particles that travel up through the nose, and fit like little puzzle pieces into cel receptor sites. The cel receptors trigger electrical impulses to the olfactory bulbs located in the brain, and transmit the information to different parts of the limbic system, including the amygdala which stores emotional memories.

When we inhale a synthetic, the chemical structure of the fragrance molecules do not fit the cel receptor sites in our nose in the same way a natural fragrance can. In essence, inhaling a synthetic fragrance is like trying to fit a puzzle piece in the wrong place. The limbic system is directly connected to the parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, and hormone balance. Therapeutic grade essential oils have relaxing, energizing, and balancing affects on the body when inhaled or applied directly to the skin.

Faith Aromatherapy is dedicated to avoiding synthetic fragrances in every product, and formulating with therapeutic grade essential oils that benefit your skin as well as your mind!
